Marcus Civin will perform "Bounty" at LA><ART, June 27, 2009, at 7:30PM. Borrowing its structure from silent film, this text-and-prop-driven performance is informed by research into labor relations, the lives of soldiers, and resource allocation.

Set: A small steel room with exposed wood supports.

Intertitle 1: On some skin, undershirts burnt in.

Action 1: I remove a bottle of water from a safe.

Intertitle 2: We used to host herders. There’s a fence now. The herds would ruin the crop. We can no longer afford to be generous.

Action 2: On stilts, I pour some water to boil.

Action 3: I cut open a rotting orange with a crumbling plaster ax.

Intertitle 3: They can’t figure out how to get a bottle of water? Screw ‘em. We fight. We fight for what we need.

Action 4: I bait a rat cage with a piece of orange.

Intertitle 4: Today, I want to tell all. I suck myself into the microphone, then up the flagpole, my stomach spits worms. Saluted, I pull to the right position.

Action 5: I pour some drops of boiling water down a drainpipe.
