I am fascinated with the use of rocks, and in particular, fake rocks for decoration. Rocks for landscaping and swimming pool enhancement, rocks to Hide-A-Key or camouflage a garden hose, rocks for the facade of a building, a rustic fireplace, a relaxing indoor waterfall, a Las Vegas casino’s ten-ton claim to greatness or a whimsical urinal! Displaying rocks is a short hand for the American dream achieved. Harnessing the wild frontier. Domesticating nature for ones every whim and desire. Moving mountains! Granite or fiberglass, rocks make the man and the mansion!

My current investigation into the decorative use of rocks is part of a larger obsession with the irrationality of personal taste and its roll in class and gender politics.
